Screaming fans and clapping hands (hey that rhymed), is all I heard when Michael Wayne Atha-
a.k.a. Yelawolf, took the stage. He walked on the stage with a presence that was unique in it's own definition. He wore a dope red hat with feather relaxing on the side of it's brim. With Yelawolf having Native American blood flowing through his veins, I can see why the feather holds some significance.
While "Empty Bottles" plays in the background, and with a red rag hanging out of his back pocket,
he approached a welded chain-linked mic stand that, wore the same red flag topped with a microphone crowned in Gold...
There arent too many rappers who are willing to utilize live instruments during their performances, but I ALWAYS appreciate it. There's so much more that goes into a live performances when there are actual instruments involved. To me, it shows a true appreciation for the art that is Music.
And even though fans might not get it at first, it's a true gift.
Hearing Yelawolf while streaming from a music platform is one thing, but watching him work his craft while he's live and in the flesh, is something thats on a whole 'nother level.
The way he weaves through words, at the rate that he does is amazingly dope. His guitarists and drummer compliment his music the same way an ice cold drink compliments a hot day. Its refreshing.
He told us that he had a rich history with Austin, Texas....
A history that led to his getting signed by the well known "Shady Records".
On a night that was humid, and rainy.
In a venue that's known for its size Yelawolf made the place bigger than it was.
It's hard to put him in one category. He dresses like a biker, rhymes like a monster, and he even has a softer-more relaxed side to him. A soft side that shines through on more than one song, in "Love Story".
It's beautifully haunting.
Yelawolf... With the right direction, and with mentors like Em, and Dr, Dre this man will go so so far,
I'm excited as a photographer, and as a fan to see that growth. I hope you are too.
